Stuff like "Blue No Matter Who" has essentially created a need for some people to become cheerleaders of the party and find ways to mitigate failures of this administration in any way possible almost as a defense mechanism. There's a lot of things contributing to this including some less than subtle Islamophobia from some users (whether intended or not, I definitely think some people have crossed some lines recently) and just a complete lack of empathy from some others, but I also think the past like few years have fundamentally broken some people into embracing the sports idealization of politics where they feel the need to protect their team from criticism.
